The man Nasir El-Rufai is it! He last held sway as governor, Kaduna State. Right now, he’s displaying his hidden and unholy talent. He couldn’t resist it anymore.
The strange canary in El-Rufai won’t let him rest. And he is singing his bizarre songs with all his strength. He is restless and restive. See how deep he invested in desperation.
You’ve got to pity him. The evil skill is throwing him up violently. The reason he’s running mouth with extreme arrogance. All over, everywhere: East, West, South and North.
Since he lost out, he has spoken on almost all issues. Nothing matters to him, anything goes for now. That’s what despair does. He visits both friends and foes. At times he gets confused on what actually is his mission.
He remains visionless. All the same, he pushes on. And he refuses to look back. He is adamant he won’t take stock.
He kick-started his political voyage with uncanny gut. He dared all the consequences; known and unknown. He cared less whose ox was gored. He went into the enemy’s camp. He made a public show of his meeting with Senator Abdul Ningi.
That was shortly after the Bauchi PDP lawmaker rattled his colleagues. He did it with his budget padding claims. He was instantly disowned. And fiercely thrown out of the Red Chamber. He is to spend three months all alone in the cold.
El-Rufai feasted on the wide and wild publicity that trailed that visit. He was encouraged. He believed he was on the right track. So? He upped his game.
The following weekend, he expanded his scope. He was conquering territories. He reached out to more leaders in Peoples Democratic Party. He added stalwarts of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) to his list.
Senator Abubakar Gada was the Sokoto State governorship candidate of SDP. He offered to host the parley at his Abuja residence. They hid under the IFTAR, breaking of the fast.
Others at the meeting: SDP national chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam; Senator Teslim Folarin, former Senate Leader and Oyo State APC gubernatorial candidate; Senator Nazif Suleiman, PDP chieftain from Bauchi State and Kamel Akinlabi, former member, House of Representatives from Oyo State PDP.
El-Rufai was just enjoying himself. So he erroneously thought. His latest exploit was in Maiduguri, Borno State, was a pointer to that queer belief.
He had the unkind audacity to pick on fuel subsidy. The vexing issue they together used to ruin us. He was a principal character in the implementation of that deadly agenda. Always on the forefront. He did it for eight sordid years. He saw nothing in those his absurd actions and inactions.
Now that he is power-naked. He feigns to be wiser. The despair in him will forever prod him on. He is being stimulated by inordinate ambition. When in government he was blind. Now, he’s pretending to see what we saw. Deceit is it all!
He swore to high heavens fuel subsidy is back. No matter the high level of denials by government and its officials. His candid observation:
“In the course of implementation, government has realised that the subsidy has to be back. Right now, we are paying a lot of money for subsidy even more than before.
“This is because the impact has been seen and the packages of support that would reduce the impact have not been so effective in reducing the impact. So, the Federal Government is back now subsidising petrol.”
Unknown to El-Rufai. He has deliberately stirred up a hornet’s nest. And there’s no peace for him. Now, they are closing in on him by the seconds.
They reasoned; he should not be given the luxury of going scot-free. He does not deserve such. Law of Karma is playing out on him. He asked for it. And he is getting it full blast. Even exceedingly beyond his weirdest expectations.
Nemesis is on display one more time. What goes around must come around. No two-way to it. What you plant is what you reap. Even in surplus abundance.
El-Rufai’s cup has run over. Indeed, it’s grossly overflowing. The whip he recklessly used on others when he held sway. The same is being meted on him presently.
It was the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum’s (AYCF) that fired the salvo. And its president general, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, told Daily Sun:
“It has reached a point where Sani cannot pay salaries despite the brouhaha by El-Rufai. The best that El-Rufai can do is to come and account for his leadership.”
Governor Uba Sani had complained publicly. He admitted that his predecessor, El-Rufai, left behind 115 contractual responsibilities, a debt load of N85 billion and $587 million. That’s just to mention a very few.
Shettima blew hot: “Even if the governor is not willing to ask El-Rufai for accountability because they are friends, civil society is willing to take up the issue at the appropriate time.
“Nobody is witch hunting or wanting him down. He should just come and tell us what he has done with the money. Courtesy demands that he explains. So, no big deal about that.” Shettima is damn right, no big deal!
The state House of Assembly promptly yielded. It bought into AYCF’s bidding. It closed further on El-Rufai.
It resolutely resolved to interrogate El-Rufai’s eight years hold on Kaduna State. Its 13-man legislative panel will examine all the books on finances, loans and contracts awarded by El-Rufai between 2015 and 2023.
The former Speaker, Yusuf Zailani, made a startling revelation. He recounted his sordid experience under El-Rufai. He represented and still represents Igabi West Constituency:
“I suffered a lot in order not to give approval for the loan to be collected, because I disagreed with the loan to be collected. I told the then governor to look at the number of loans we had on hand, and he didn’t listen to me.”
Already, the House “unanimously requested to hand over notes given to Governor Sani by the previous administration so that it would guide the committee on the financial status of the state.”
El-Rufai is not alone in this dastard game. Neither is his ilk in short supply in our clime. They are overwhelming; all over us!
The reason we are glad El-Rufai is in the eye of storm. The whirlwind is blowing. It’s violent. And he is lost in it, deep in it.
The harder he pretends to sing his odd songs, the harder they close in on him. The farther, he attempts to go, the more his territory shrinks.
ADDENDUM
Please, oblige me your indulgence. It’s going to be strictly brief. You see, I couldn’t have announced the sudden but “rude” disappearance of this column. That occurred back-to-back in the last two weeks.
Not intentional. It was not humanly possible for me to envisage it. Only God, the all-knowing could. It happened the way He purposed it. And He was gracious enough, He made me to survive. I’m eternally grateful to God, the giver and taker of life
He even allowed me to announce my humble re-appearance. All glory to Him alone.
Thank God. I’m getting better, stronger by the seconds. Speedy recovery is on going with accelerated restoration.
Nothing missing nothing broken. That phase is phasing away faster than expected. I am more than conqueror.
