The new Soun of Ogbomosho is the stereotypical “Eni Itan” (Child of History & Destiny) By Wumi Akintide

“Uneasy lies the Head that wears the Crown” may have applied more to Royal Fathers like the new Soun of Ogbomosho, the new Oluwo of Iwo and the Oonirisa as representative sampling.

The proverb also applies to powerful Kings like the new King Charles the Third of the UK and his contemporaries like Emperor of Japan or the King of Saudi Arabia to mention a few.

The new Soun Oba Laoye Ghandi Oladunni whom I know very well, had grown up in Akure my home town before going to the United States where he had proved himself as a star performer and as an “Oluomo” Pastor in the Redeem Christian Church of God in Silver Spring, Maryland where he had spearheaded the Building of Jesus House, an ultra modern Edifice which has become the Center of Gravity for the Redeem Christian Church of God worldwide but more so in Maryland State in the United States.

I said it before and I would say it again that Pastor Ghandi Olaoye was such an achiever that could be counted as one of the possible major candidates or contenders to succeed His Eminence the General Overseer Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the distinguished Ph.D holder in Mathematics who was picked by Pa Fadayomi to become his successor and Head of the Church in what is now looked upon purely as a Miracle because the little Church has grown by leaps and bounds under Pastor Adeboye and it has become the fastest growing Church in the whole World.

Today the same Pastor Adeboye is often described as the Head of the fastest growing Church in the World and the Pope of the Evangelicals in Nigeria the greatest country in Africa third only in development and order of ranking to South Africa and Egypt.

Pastor Laoye Ghandi had performed so creditably that he became one of the many favorites of the General Overseer.

That was the position of things before he threw his hat to the Ring as one of the last candidates competing to fill the vacant stool of the Soun of Ogbomosho that he now occupies today by Destiny.

His decision to be coronated the Soun can be compared to Peter the Apostle being called upon to become the natural ruler of his ancestral home town in Israel and to minimize or forego some of the foundational doctrines of Jesus Christ that “thou shall not worship another god”

Pastor now Oba Laoye has his job cut out for him to reconcile the adherents of “Isese”, Islam and Christianity in Ogbomosho – one of the biggest towns in Oyo State and one of the foundation pillars of Yoruba Culture Worldwide starting from our cradle of Yoruba Civilization in Ile Ife and up to the Favelas of Brazil, the rolling Mountains of Cuba and the pristine forests of Oyotunji Vilage in South Carolina in the United States.

The new Soun of Ogbomosho has defined for me the new meaning of the English adage that says, “Uneasy lies the Head that wears a crown”

The new Soun is doing a marvelous job and making the best of a bad situation in his new position as a prominent royal father in Oyo State.

But I often wonder if he doesn’t sometime regret his decision to leave his very promising and lucrative job at Jesus House in Silver Spring and his bright future in the Hierarchy of Redeem Pastors all over the World to relocating to Ogbomosho to start chanting “Eriwo Ya” with the “Isese” Group in Ogbomosho, or chanting “Allahu Aqbar” with the Muslims and “Talitacumi” and speaking in tongues with the Christians in Ogbomosho or chanting “Nam Yoho Renge Kyo” with the few Buddhists in Ogbomosho.

Ogbomosho is the Ancestral Home of “Danafojura” the Miraculous Masquerade who dances and thrives inside a conflagration or Inferno of Fire and never gets burnt.

I know former Prince Ghandi Laoye Oladunni, the new Soun as one of the best achievers the old City of Ogbomosho and their Kingmakers could have found to occupy the ancient but prestigious throne of Ogbomosho nonetheless.

I rest my case.
