The Military High Command has refuted claims that terrorists abducted 150 persons in Gobir, Sokoto State.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba.

Buba said the incident of mass killing and burial depicted by terrorists in a trending video happened in a nearby African country, not Nigeria.

In the statement, Buba explained that on the 29th of August 2024, at about 5 p.m., troops of OPERATION HADARIN DAJI deployed at FOB Zurmi in Zurmi LGA of Zamfara State embarked on a fighting patrol to dislodge a terror gathering at Kwashabawa Village.

During the fight, while attempting to outflank the terrorists, two of the troops’ MRAPs got bogged down due to the swampy terrain caused by the rains.

The statement further stated that the troops dismounted and demobilized the Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles when efforts to backload them were futile, adding that the demobilization of the MRAPs by the troops was to prevent them from being useful to the terrorists after abandonment.

He, however, urged Nigerians to be circumspect of the antics of the terrorists to propagate misinformation, disinformation and fake news as part of their war propaganda efforts.
