A university hockey match in Philadelphia was interrupted by the sound of terrifying gunfire that sent players and officials scrambling for cover.
Footage of the harrowing incident shows players, coaches and official sprinting to take evasive action with the sound of bullets being fired clearly audible.
Mercifully, nobody was injured and an update was swiftly posted on St. Louis University Field Hockey’s X account clarifying none of the players were harmed.
‘Today’s match at La Salle has been called due to a shooting in the vicinity of the field,’ the post read. ‘Everyone is safe.’
Philadelphia police say the shooting took place at a nearby Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot.
‘An offender was shooting a gun from the Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot,’ read a police statement provided to DailyMail.com.
‘The offender fled the scene prior to police arrival.
‘No shooting victims were located. The scene was secured, no arrest at this time, and no weapon recovered. The investigation is active and ongoing with Central Detectives.’
The game was called off as a result of the shooting, which St. Louis University flippantly described as a ‘disturbance’, after 48 minutes.
‘The match was halted in the fourth quarter due to a disturbance in the vicinity of the field,’ read the post on the school’s athletics website. ‘SLU student-athletes and staff are safe.’
