A Southern California teenager, Alan W. Filion, has been sentenced to four years in prison for orchestrating

a nationwide swatting spree that involved over 375 false emergency calls. The 18-year-old from Lancaster was charged with making interstate threats to injure others, with incidents stretching from August 2022 to January 2024.

Filion’s actions included threatening bombs and mass shootings at various religious institutions and schools, and even targeting government officials. Authorities reported that during these calls, Filion misled emergency responders by using false identities, leading to dangerous situations where police entered homes with weapons drawn, detaining innocent occupants.

The U.S. Department of Justice revealed that Filion boasted about his ability to manipulate law enforcement, even advertising paid swatting services on social media platforms. His arrest in early 2024 came after he was linked to a May 2023 threat in Florida, where he claimed to possess an AR-15 rifle and explosives, threatening to “kill everyone.”

Filion pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including a threat made in October 2022 regarding a potential mass shooting at a high school in Washington and another concerning bomb threats at a historically Black college in Florida. His actions have raised concerns about the serious implications of swatting, a dangerous prank that can lead to life-threatening situations.

As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of such reckless behavior.
