Taraba in total blackout as power outage continues for second week

Residents of Taraba State are still grappling with a persistent power outage that has plunged the nooks and crannies of the state into darkness for the past two weeks.

The blackout which was attributed to the alleged vandalism of electricity cables belonging to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, has continue to make life cumbersome for the people especially those who lack the means to afford fuel to power generators.

The power outage was noticed to have continued to cause significant disruption to daily life and business operations in the state especially in Jalingo, the state capital

The lack of electricity in the entire state, as noticed by Newspot, has also contributed to a rise in the heat wave.

Businesses across the state, at the time of filing this report, have been forced to either limit their operations or shut down entirely due to the lack of power.

According to local sources who bared their minds to our Taraba reporter, the vandalism that triggered the blackout occurred at key points in the neighbouring Gombe State.

Some of the officials of the YEDC who spoke with Newspot in Jalingo metropolis said efforts are underway to repair the damaged infrastructure, but the timeframe for restoring power remains uncertain.

The prolonged power outage has prompted calls for increased security measures to protect critical infrastructure and for a more reliable power supply system to prevent future disruptions.

In the meantime, residents, as noticed by our reporter, are left to cope with the challenges of living without electricity, as the blackout shows little sign of ending soon.
