The Taraba State government has flagged off the second phase of cattle vaccination in the state.
The exercise which was flagged off in Sardauna LGA on Tuesday was observed to have also commenced simultaneously in Taku, Gashaka and Kurmi local councils of the state.
The vaccination, as observed by Newspot, was necessitated by the recent outbreak of cow disease that led to the deaths of over two thousand cows in Sardauna LGA.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Professor Nicholas Namessan Oliver, solicited the support of the people of the state.
Represented by the Assistant Director, Epidemiology of the Ministry, Dr. Sani Isah, he explained that the second phase of the exercise was designed to massively vaccinate all livestock in the council and neighbouring local governments.
Commenting, the chairman of the LGA, Mohammed Umar, who was also represented by the leader of the legislative council, Salihu Abdulkarim, assured the team of veterinary officers of full support in the discharge of their assigned responsibilities.
On his part, Chief of Mambilla, Alhaji Shehu Audu Baju, vowed to give the the team the much desired support needed to vaccinate all cattles spread across the nooks and crannies of the council.
The Divisional Veterinary Officer of the council, Godwin Mangbon, who advised herders to administer the right dose of vaccines to cattles, stated that haemorrhagic septicemia affects cattle and other ruminant animals, attributing it to stress, hunger, starvation, among others.
He also cautioned those who derive joy in selling fake cattle vaccines to, as a matter of urgency, desist from such, or be compelled to face the wrath of the law.
