Taraba Assembly member tasks constituents to maintain peace amid recent violence

The member representing Karim-Lamido ll constituency at the Taraba State House of Assembly has urged his constituents to refrain from acts capable of disrupting the peace in the area.

The call came in the wake of recent violence that resulted in significant loss of lives and property in the area.

Speaking on Tuesday during a community address, in the affected areas, the lawmaker cautioned against cattle rustling and other criminal activities that could harm the peaceful coexistence of the constituency.

His address followed a reported case of cattle rustling in the Andami Ward of his constituency.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace for the development of the area, he urged the community to safeguard the existing peace, warning that any individuals involved in criminal activities would face severe consequences.

In response to the unrest, the lawmaker announced the immediate suspension of market activities in Mashigin Kiriya Village, a community that borders Plateau State.

The suspension, according to him, is part of measures to prevent further violence and promote security in the region.

Also speaking, the representative of the security forces, Captain A.Y. Jarma urged residents to report suspicious activities to security operatives.

He noted that security is a collective responsibility and warned those aiding bandits by supplying food and other essentials to desist from such actions, adding that the government would not tolerate any threats to the safety of innocent people and their property.

Community leaders who spoke with Newspot backed the decision to shut down the Mashigin Kiriya market to restore peace in the area.
