Taraba State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Dr Jauro Hassan, has emphasized the need for a development approach targeted at the grassroots.
Speaking during the inauguration of Supervisory Councilors in Jalingo, the state capital, Hassan highlighted the critical role of local governments in addressing the needs of the people.
He lamented the neglect often experienced by the local councils, resulting in a lack of significant development at the grassroots level.
“In many instances, development efforts have been disproportionately directed towards urban centers, leaving our local government areas and communities underserved,” Hassan remarked.
He commended the current administration for prioritizing grassroots development, citing Governor Agbu Kefas’s commitment to alleviating poverty and fostering inclusive growth.
Hassan urged the newly appointed officials to embrace their roles as frontline representatives and work diligently to ensure equitable development across all communities.
Seven supervisory councilors and ten advisers were inaugurated to oversee the seven wards within the Jalingo Local Government Area.
These appointments, as observed by Newspot, are expected to remain in place until the next local government elections in the state.
