Tackle insecurity in North Central region – NUJ urges FG

The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, has decried the insecurity in the North Central region of the country and called on security agencies to take concrete measures to curb the ugly situation.

President of the NUJ in Zone D, Chris Atsaka made the call in a statement following the abduction of the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in Benue State, Matthew Abo.

Abo was reportedly snatched by gunmen in his hometown in Ukum local government area of Benue State.

The NUJ scribe condemned the abduction of the Commissioner and the unending insecurity in the region.

He said the continued insecurity in the North Central geo-political zone is worrisome and deserves drastic steps by the government and security operatives to halt the trend.

Atsaka highlighted with regret the spate of abductions, kidnappings, banditry and other forms of criminal activities, urging the government and security agencies to redouble efforts at safeguarding the masses.

He decried activities of bandits in Niger State as well as the continued herdsmen /farmers crisis on the Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa States which he claimed is stunting economic growth in the zone.

The Vice President sympathized with the people and government of the affected zones, calling for decisive action to restore normalcy in the area.
