Hosts Sunshine Stars Football Club on Sunday 1 May 2022 in Akure drew goalless with Shooting Stars FC in a match day 26 fixture of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The game played at the Ondo State Sports Complex saw both sides being cautious in the first half, with no clear-cut goalscoring chances created.
The home side surged forward in the second half, not holding back in pressing for goal, but the visiting side from Ibadan refused to yield ground.
Speaking with sports writers after the encounter, the Sunshine Stars coach, Emmanuel Deutsch, said the match witnessed a good game.
Deutsch said his side dominated the game from the first blast of the referee’s whistle to the last.
He however added that they were not able to convert their chances because of the defensive tactics of the visitors.
“We pushed forward, we made some tactical changes but were not successful, because our attack was not sharp as expected, coupled with the fact that our opponents refused to come out to play.
“Their goalkeeper was at his best also to deny us many goalscoring chances. But we are going to find a solution to our attack. Our defence and midfield were okay,” he said.
The Assistant Coach of Shooting Stars, Kabiru Alausa, on his part said the game was a very tough one for his side.
“Sunshine Stars came to Ibadan and snatched a point, and we have also come away from here with a point. Above all, it was a good game for both sides,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sunshine Stars now have 40 points and stand fifth on the NPFL log, while Shooting Stars sit 11th with 34 points
