Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim has dismissed his latest link withManchester United and insists he has not been contacted by the Premier League club.

Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure at United after a poor start to the season was worsened on Wednesday evening as they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup following a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle at Old Trafford.

Reports have claimed that United are now actively considering replacements for Ten Hag and Amorim is on the club’s shortlist alongside former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

Amorim, who was on Chelsea’s managerial shortlist earlier this year before they appointed Mauricio Pochettino, claims he has an idea over his future at the end of the current season but has made it clear he will ‘respect’ his contract with Sporting, which expires in 2026.

When asked about United’s interest after Sporting’s 4-2 victory over Farense in the Portuguese League Cup on Thursday evening, Amorim replied: ‘This year I’m not going to go back to the same conversation as last year.

‘I’m not going to make any kind of comment on these situations.’

When pressed again about a potential move to United in his post-match press conference, Amorim said: ‘We don’t know the future, it depends on the results.

‘It has more to do with the general idea of what we need as a team, extra pressure so we don’t hide.

‘Regarding the future, I have an idea for the end of the season but I won’t say it now. But the results and the context take us to something different.

‘I don’t want to be commenting on these things. I have not been contacted by Manchester United.’

Asked if the situation could change if United trigger the release clause in his contract with Sporting, which is believed to be around €10 million (£8.7m), Amorim said: ‘I’m not going to be commenting on that.

‘I will respect the contract, everything that is there will be fulfilled.’
