In a surprising turn of events, Mojisola Meranda, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has reportedly stepped down from her position. This revelation was made by the ousted speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, during a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program.
Obasa stated that Meranda announced her resignation at a peace meeting held at the Lagos House in Marina last weekend, attended by various party leaders. He emphasized that Meranda’s resignation was clear during the meeting, raising questions about the next steps for the assembly and its leadership.
“At the meeting held in Marina, which saw the attendance of all party leaders, it was made clear that Meranda herself declared her resignation,” Obasa stated. He continued, “When someone resigns from office, the associated paraphernalia is taken away. So, the question arises: Have you also resigned?”
This development comes amidst ongoing tensions within the Lagos State House of Assembly, where lawmakers have been divided on leadership issues. Following Meranda’s purported resignation, several members have reaffirmed their support for her, insisting that she remains the rightful speaker.
As the situation unfolds, the political landscape in Lagos is set for potential upheaval, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
