The Sokoto State Government has expended about N523,390,000 on the registration fees of indigent students studying at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

This is as the state Students’ Association in UDUS applauded the State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, for the payment of the registration fees.

The Chairman of the association, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu, while addressing a press conference in Sokoto on Sunday, said the payment was for over 7,000 indigenes of the state studying in the school.

Aliyu in the statement released at the briefing noted that the immediate past government in the state refused to pay the registration fees of Sokoto state indigenes studying in UDUS for three sessions, noting that this caused students unrest and disrupted studies in the school.

He, however, commended the governor for the payment.

The governor, he said, “He has restored back hope to the entire Sokoto students across different higher institutions of learning.

“From the foregoing, you may need to know that students from UDUS who are indigenes of Sokoto state are happy with the gesture made by the governor with the full payments of students’ registration fees for the session of 2022/2023.”
