The Ebonyi State Police Command held a “show of force” exercise on Wednesday amid the sit-at-home declared by the Finland-based Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa.

The command collaborated with the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Department of State Services (DSS).

The security operatives converged at the police headquarters in Abakaliki, moving out to different parts of the city.

Addressing journalists, the command’s spokesperson, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said the exercise was meant to assure residents of adequate security in the state.

Onovwakpoyeya said the security agents are ready to tackle insecurity in the state.

“It is a routine event, and it is targeted at restoring the confidence of the people in the security agencies. We have gone round the town to assure the people that we are capable of protecting them. We visited some flash points and traffic points,’’ she said.

Onovwakpoyeya also urged residents to ignore the seven-day sit-at-home order.

“Residents should go about their lawful businesses; police operatives are after the hoodlums who have been causing trouble in different parts of the state,’’ she said.

Ekpa had declared seven days of sit-at-home across the Southeast.

The sit-at-home order has led to unknown gunmen attacking residents of Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and other states across the Southeast.
