Manchester United forward Anthony Martial will return to Old Trafford this summer after Sevilla confirmed they will not look to sign the Frenchman on a permanent basis.

Martial joined the La Liga club on loan for the remainder of the season in January after requesting to leave United.

The forward was unhappy with his playing time under Ralf Rangnick and there was plenty of interest in his services but he chose Sevilla as they were the strongest interested party.

However, though Martial felt he could revive his career in Spain, he’s struggled with injury and he’s managed just 12 appearances for the club, scoring once.

And Sevilla’s president Jose Castro has confirmed that, having already spent money on a loan fee for Martial, the club will not look to make his move a permanent one this summer.

‘Anthony Martial will return to Man United,’ said Castro.

‘We spent important money on him but it didn’t work – also, he had injuries and we’re not going to buy him on a permanent deal.’

It remains to be seen whether Martial is part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at the club but he would not appear to be a natural fit for the Dutchman’s desired style of play.

Ten Hag wants to sign at least one forward this summer, though he plans on keeping Cristiano Ronaldo.
