SEMA issues flood warning alert to 11 Yobe LGs

Yobe State Emergency Management Agency Agency, (SEMA), has issued an early warning flood alert to 11 local government areas.

The Agency issued the warning on Tuesday in view of impending discharge of water from Dadin-kowa Dam, Hadeja-Jama’are River, River Kamodugu, and Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.

According to SEMA, local government areas likely to be affected by the impending flood are: Nguru, Bade, Karasuwa, Jakusko, Yusufari and Geidam.

Others are: Tarmuwa, Machina, Bursari Gujba and Fune.

“Yobe SEMA advises all residents to take immediate precautions and safety measures as follow:

“Preparation for Relocation to higher ground if you live in a flood-prone area or near any rivers at risk of overflowing.

“Secure important documents and valuables by moving them to safe locations.

“Stay informed by regularly listening to updates from traditional leaders, local government authorities and the state emergency management agency.

“Keep emergency contact details handy for quick access to response services”, SEMA advised.

SEMA noted that the advisory was issued to ensure that residents remained alert to minimize the risk of loss of lives and property.
