Taking care of your own needs and well-being is important but considering the needs of others can also be beneficial to you. The consideration of others’ needs and feelings above your own is called being selfless. People who walk through life with a selfless attitude are emotionally stable, feel in harmony, and experience “authentic, durable happiness” (Dambrun, 2017).
Perhaps that makes acting selfless a selfish act?

Volunteering may be the first idea that comes to mind when you think about selflessness, and while this is a wonderful practice, it is only one of many ways we can be giving with our time, energy, and love. For example, learning to be more considerate of others can be helpful for many areas of your life including work, marriage, and everyday happiness. This article will present you with more examples of selflessness and give you suggestions about how you can incorporate more selfless acts into your life.

The two words almost homogeneous and purposely woven for the actions they define. Selfless in other words could mean compassionate, philanthropy, assistance and so on while service is purely to render help or doing something for others. Life is all about service and the earlier one understands this the better and simple the world becomes.

Also, selflessness literally means placing less importance on yourself than on others. It is a state of mind in which you put an equal, or more, amount of consideration towards other people’s interests rather than towards your own. Selfless people recognize the needs and feelings of others and try to show kindness in their actions.

A selfless person can be described as:
Generous
Kind
Patient
Respectful (Neff, 2003)

If anyone has ever said that you are a selfless person, consider it a compliment. Many great people throughout history have been described as selfless—people such as Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King Jr. These two pillars of history completely put the well-being of others above their own personal interests.

The concept of selflessness started from the beginning of the world that is, at creation. The Almighty God and Supreme Being in His benevolence made it possible for love to rule and upon this every good work was created so that the world will remain love zone.

The act of doing good is very essential because at different point in time individuals do not directly posses all they need to perfect a cause, whether to move to a higher level or change position. Meanwhile, there are others fully loaded with what other people need.

The consciousness of making it a duty to help others should not be seen as foolishness and that the person involved can not convert such good gestures to personal gains. Of what benefit is the life that can not help others in need?
It is a fact that what goes around comes around. What you sow is what you reap. Many people are not so rich in material things but are rich on mind because all they think is to be a blessing to the world.

Ron Kaufman, the world’s premiere thought-leader, Educator and motivator, once said and I quote “Selfless acts are a source of profound meaning for yourself and your life.” The most ideal thing to do is lifting others because those you build will certainly fulfill a purpose. This is practically how the world started. A candle lighting other one has nothing to lose but increases the tenacity of how others fulfill their purpose hence, make the world a brighter space.

Selfless service could be personal and team work. There is an extent one can go but two or more can do better and more. Even if you are not directly involved, the seed or contributions can be sent to impact on lives.

Let us live in the consciousness of being our brothers keeper.
