Sean Dyche will demand Everton get back to basics and rediscover their identity after being handed the task of saving the Toffees from Premier League relegation.

Dyche, who has been out of work since leaving relegated Burnley last summer, has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at Goodison Park, replacing the sacked Frank Lampard, who himself joined the Toffees exactly a year ago.

The 51-year-old inherits a squad mired in the bottom three, who have just lost one of their better players with the sale of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle, and with unrest among fans at the club’s direction under owner Farhad Moshiri.

Dyche, who will bid to end a run of eight league games without a win against leaders Arsenal on Saturday, said: ‘I know about Everton’s passionate fanbase and how precious this club is to them. We’re ready to work and to give them what they want.

‘That starts with sweat on the shirt, effort and getting back to the basic principles of what Everton has stood for for a long time.

‘We want to change the shape of this club, remodel it in our style, but remodel it in a way we can win.’

Everton had last night reportedly bid £45million for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.
