The Saudi Pro League is turning its attention to Liverpool again this summer, with Luis Diaz and Joe Gomez being eyed for big-money moves, according to reports.
Last year saw Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho all swap Anfield for the Saudi Pro League, with Henderson’s move bringing in £12m and Fabinho’s £40m.
Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia after failed bids for him last summer and both Diaz and Gomez are now being touted with making the switch.
Many of the high profile moves to Saudi Arabia over the last 18 months have been by players who are past their prime, but the mega-rich league now wants to focus on younger options.
Diaz and Gomez are both 27 years old and are likely around the peak of their careers.
The Daily Mail report that both the Colombian winger and English defender are being looked at by the Saudi Pro League and both may be open to a move after Jurgen Klopp’s departure as manager of the Reds.
Much will depend on incoming manager Arne Slot’s plans and how central he sees the two men to his strategy at Anfield.
Both men were very important to Klopp over the last season, with 51 appearances each across all competitions, so both would need to be replaced if they were allowed to leave.
Gomez and Diaz are under contract at Liverpool until 2027 so would command big transfer fees, as well as enormous wages if they were to make the move to Saudi Arabia.
The Reds’ squad is already depleted before Slot starts work as Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara have both left the club at the end of their contracts.
