…. NNPC Says Sanusi has right to his opinion
A former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against playing the role of a petroleum minister in Nigeria.
He also demanded that a proper audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) be carried out.
He made this call while delivering his address at the ongoing Bank Directors Summit at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
Sanusi revealed that this call was what cost him his job as the CBN governor, a position he held from June 2009 and February 2014.
He also submitted that the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) should remain operational until banks get together and pay up what they owe the system.
According to the former CBN boss, the banking sector must shore up its trust deficit in revenue.
The former Emir of Kano also called for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) audit, noting that this call cost him his job as the CBN Governor.
However, speaking on an interview with the NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, said there would be no need for an official response to the claims made by the ex-CBN boss.
The NNPC said it was focused on delivering the task set for the national oil company, stressing that everyone was free to air their opinion.
He explained that constant responses could hinder the enormous task before the oil company, adding that NNPC would rather concentrate on handling the work that it was established to deliver.
