In a chilling case that highlights the convergence of stalking, weapon manufacturing, and interstate law enforcement, a 28-year-old San Mateo resident, Leqiang Wang, was apprehended at Los Angeles International Airport late Thursday night in connection with a cache of illegal firearms and firearm-manufacturing equipment, including a 3D printer.
The story began on March 7 when a woman in San Mateo reported a suspicious man had followed her from San Francisco and had taken photos of her vehicle. Police say the man—later identified as Wang—returned to her neighborhood multiple times, sparking further concern and prompting a deeper investigation.
Detectives from the San Mateo Police Department tracked the suspect to his home, where they executed a search warrant and discovered a disturbing trove of weapons: multiple automatic rifles, illegal silencers, ghost guns (unserialized firearms), and a 3D printer believed to be used in the illegal production of these weapons.
Following the raid, an arrest warrant was quickly issued, and authorities located Wang at LAX on April 3. He was taken into custody by the LAPD’s Airport Division and booked into a Los Angeles County jail. He is awaiting transfer to San Mateo County as the investigation continues.
This case has raised serious alarms about the growing misuse of 3D printing technology in the proliferation of ghost guns—firearms that bypass regulation due to their lack of serial numbers. Law enforcement agencies across California and beyond have expressed growing concern over such untraceable weapons becoming accessible through digital blueprints and at-home manufacturing.
Local safety advocates are calling for tighter legislation, increased surveillance of firearm components, and a federal crackdown on ghost gun distribution networks.
Newspot Nigeria will continue to monitor this unfolding case as authorities dig deeper into Wang’s motives and connections.
