Roy Keane has criticised Nemanja Matic following the Manchester United midfielder’s post-match interview against Chelsea.

Matic, 33, is out of contract at Old Trafford and is set to leave at the end of the season after five years at the club.

The Serbian started United’s 1-1 draw with the Blues in the Premier League on Thursday night and spoke afterwards about the Red Devils being ‘in his heart’ alongside his other former clubs Chelsea and Benfica.

However, Keane, a former captain at Old Trafford, believes Matic played a part in United’s problems over the last decade and took issue with him claiming allegiance to three different clubs.

Keane said on Sky Sports: ‘Where’s the standards at the club? Matic’s talking about I’m leaving, I’ve had a great time, Man United will always be in my heart, oh and Chelsea as well, oh and Benfica don’t forget them, they all can’t be in your heart.’

Since joining from Chelsea in 2017, Matic has failed to put his stamp on United’s midfield and will leave having not won a trophy with the club.

With the likes of Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard also set to depart Old Trafford this summer, the Red Devils are embarking on another new era post Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, new manager Erik ten Hag, who takes charge in June after agreeing a move from Ajax, will be faced with a club on a downward spiral as United look set to finish outside the top-four this season for the first time in four years.

Yet Matic thinks better times are around the corner for the Manchester giants and has urged the club’s board to quickly diagnose the team’s problems.

He said: ‘United is a big club. Expectations are high and, at the end of this season, the club needs to look forward to see where they can improve and, for sure, better times will come.’
