Manchester United legend Roy Keane says his former side have little chance of making the top four.

The Red Devils beat Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday, which at least put pressure on Spurs and Aston Villa before the two sides faced off on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side left Villa Park with a 4-0 victory, that puts Spurs to within two points of Villa in fourth.

John McGinn, Villa’s captain, will miss the next three matches after his sending off.

But United remain eight points behind Villa, while they’re six behind Spurs having played a game more.

And, while fifth may be enough to qualify for the Champions League, Keane says United’s inconsistencies will make it difficult.

‘I think that confidence (at Spurs), that momentum when you have players coming off the bench scoring goals. That feel-good factor that goes into winning games of football,’ said Keane.

‘It’s a setback for Villa and a big result for Spurs. I’m not sure really, we’re talking about top four or top five but the main thing for United is to be consistent and to keep winning football matches, and hoping they (Spurs and Villa) slip up obviously.

‘If that 5th place is available…I think it’s a bit of a stretch to catch Villa for 4th. They have to keep winning football matches.’

United have a three-week break from the Premier League, and are next in action when they take on Brentford in north-west London on March 30th.

The Red Devils host Liverpool at Old Trafford in the FA Cup quarter-finals next Sunday.
