Roy Keane has hit out at the work rate of four Manchester United players in particular and feels incoming manager Ralf Rangnick’s biggest challenge is to get his side running more.

Rangnick is expected to take over at United as interim manager in the very near future, leading the team for the rest of the season.

Michael Carrick is in temporary charge and takes the Red Devils to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, but Keane is looking ahead to what the next boss needs to do, and that is to get more miles out of his players.

The Red Devils legend feels the current team are doing nowhere near enough work when out of possession, pointing the finger at Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford in particuler.

‘Football, it it was just about being in possession I’d still be playing,’ Keane said on Sky Sports on Sunday. ‘But a lot of time you’re not in possession and you’ve seen the stats with the United lads.

‘I think the big decision over the next few months is getting the right manager in and getting players to run.

‘Ronaldo and Fernandes, Pogba, even Rashford – they’ve stopped running out of possession. So that’s the biggest challenge, getting these lads onside to start closing teams down.

‘United have the talent and it does need coaching and United do have to improve on set-pieces, of course.’

Rangnick has agreed to take the interim role, with two years of consultancy afterwards, and he is set to have a say in who takes over permanently after him.

Reports even suggest that the German could earn himself the job on a permanent basis if he performs well over the remainder of this campaign.
