Roy Keane was involved in an angry confrontation with an Ipswich Town supporter after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Portman Road on Sunday.
The incident occurred moments after the full time whistle with Keane standing by the side of the pitch with the rest of Sky Sports’ broadcast team.
During an advert break, Keane left the Sky Sports podium and approached a group of fans in the lower tier who had been shouting abuse at him.
In a video clip recorded by an Ipswich fan stood further back from the confrontation, Keane could be heard telling one man: ‘Wait in the car park, we can have a discussion. I’ll wait for you in the car park.’
A member of security then put his arm in front of Keane and led the former United captain back towards his Sky Sports team, which included presenter Kelly Cates and former England women’s international Izzy Christiansen.
Keane’s fellow Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp, was seen looking concerned and also spoke with the same Ipswich fan after Keane had been ushered back to the side of the pitch.
Another member of security then told the group of Ipswich fans to ‘calm down’.
Keane was appointed as Ipswich manager in April 2009 but lasted just 20 months in charge before he was sacked in January 2011.
In Keane’s only full season at Ipswich the team finished 15th in the 2009/10 Championship campaign. Keane was sacked following a run of seven defeats in nine games, which left the club three points above the relegation zone.
‘I don’t think I’m a bad manager, but at Ipswich I managed badly,’ Keane wrote in his autobiography The Second Half.
‘I spoke to some people like something on the bottom of my shoe.’
In June this year, an Arsenal fan who headbutted Keane after a Premier League match was found guilty of assault.
Scott Law, 43, attacked the former United captain at the Emirates Stadium while he was on pundit duty for Sky Sports on September 3 last year.
