Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has played down the ‘completely normal’ bust-up between Jurrien Timber and Wout Weghorst in training.
Arsenal defender Timber put in a challenge on the former Manchester United striker which left Weghorst on the floor and very unhappy.
Koeman had to step in after the players exchanged words and Weghorst complained to his manager about the physical nature of the tackle.
The giant striker, who moved to Ajax over the summer, continued to show his frustration as he leant on a training mannequin, but ultimately rejoined the session.
Koeman confirmed after the training session that Weghorst was not injured and has since dismissed any issues between the forward and the full-back.
‘It’s completely normal, it happens everywhere. Let’s not make it bigger than it is,’ Koeman told a press conference.
‘It’s also important to say that he didn’t leave during the training session. Afterwards he came up to me and we talked about it.’
Netherlands are currently preparing for their second Nations League game against Germany on Tuesday evening after beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 5-2 on Saturday.
Koeman was also asked about Memphis Depay’s expected move to Brazilian side Corinthians after saying Steven Bergwijn switch to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad has ruled him out of contention for the national side.
‘I disapproved Bergwijn to Saudi, with Memphis it can be different,’ Koeman said.
‘The level of the league in Brazil is different, so yes, he can still be part of the national team, but it depends on his fitness and if he reaches his level.’
