Robbie Savage has hailed Mohamed Salah’s recent form and says he would currently rather have the Liverpool star over any of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Salah has started this season in scintillating form with nine goals in all competitions for Liverpool so far, including six in the Premier League – the joint-highest alongside Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.

The Egyptian star, who has recently been named on the 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or award, scored an early contender for Premier League goal of the season during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City last weekend as he jinked past three defenders before slamming a fierce shot past Ederson.

And former Premier League midfielder Savage believes that there is no player in world football better than Salah on current form.

‘Mo Salah is the best player in the world right now. Would I have him over Messi and Ronaldo? Yes. Mbappe? Yes. Neymar? Yes,’ Savage told William Hill.

‘For me, right now, if you are picking the team in the forward area, Mo Salah would be the first choice. So I would say, right now, Mo Salah is the best player in the world in terms of creativity, assists.’

Brazil icon Rivaldo also believes that the 29-year-old is one of the best players in the world and thinks he could even win this year’s Ballon d’Or trophy, despite facing competition from the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowksi.

‘Liverpool’s Egyptian forward is producing a fantastic start of season with impressive stats and a sensational goal against Manchester City last weekend,’ the ex-Barcelona forward told Betfair.

‘He’s one of the best players in the world right now because his astonishing numbers in terms of goals and assists are obtained in the Premier League and Champions League, two of the most difficult competitions in the planet.

‘When you are so good in demanding conditions then, of course, you are a top player who deserves to be among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or this season.’
