Robbie Keane believes Mikel Arteta will be ‘slaughtering’ Rob Holding in private despite defending his players after Arsenal were thrashed 3-0 by Tottenham in the Premier League on Thursday night.

It was a woeful night out for the Gunners, not helped by Holding being booked twice in the first 33 minutes and leaving his side a man down.

Arteta seemed vexed by the referee’s decisions during the match, not only sending Holding off but also giving a penalty against Cedric Soares for a nudge on Son Heung-Min.

The Spaniard told Sky Sports: ‘If I say what I think I’m suspended six months, so I cannot say.

‘With my players? No [not unhappy]. I’m so proud of my players.

‘Ask the referee to come in front of the camera and explain his decisions. They’re his decisions.

‘It’s a shame because a beautiful game was destroyed today.’

Tottenham hero Keane could see why Arteta was defending his players publicly, but thinks the Gunners boss would be far less generous in the dressing room after seriously poor decision making from Holding.

‘I understand what he’s doing but he said about destroying the game, but Holding killed the team,’ Keane told Sky Sports.

‘They started off very well, first 15 minutes, they were controlling the game, looked very comfortable. Then they get a silly penalty, silly sending off.

‘What he says on TV, I get it, but I’ve been with managers when people get sent off. In that dressing room he’ll be absolutely slaughtering Holding, I imagine.

‘I get he has to protect him, he’s the manager, when he’s in front of the cameras, for everybody. There’s two games left in the season and it’s so important that they get the six points. But internally, he’ll be having a go at them players.’

Arsenal now have two league games to play and are still one point and one place ahead of Tottenham as they look to hang onto fourth.
