The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has called on paramilitary agencies to intensify patrols to curb crime and enhance security across the state.

Ibas emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration, stressing that sustainable development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.

He urged security agencies to step up efforts to deter criminal activities and prevent lawbreakers from gaining ground.

The administrator made these remarks during a meeting with heads of paramilitary organizations at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday.

He described the engagement as essential, given the critical role these agencies play in combating crime.

Acknowledging their contributions to maintaining peace, Ibas encouraged them to actively participate in joint operations aimed at neutralizing criminal threats.

He also urged them to bolster intelligence-gathering efforts to address issues such as kidnapping, illegal activities, and communal conflicts.

Ibas stated, “I will, therefore, need you in all aspects of maintaining law and order.

“It therefore means that in conducting your various roles, you must have at heart the interests of Nigeria and the people of Rivers State in particular.

“I hereby direct that you increase your patrols. If criminals have access to our resources, of course, that means you are emboldening them.

“The responsibility has been given to individuals and organizations; as such, we must all work towards ensuring that this state is very, very safe.”

Highlighting security concerns, Ibas warned against the use of vehicles with unregistered or concealed number plates, describing them as a threat to public safety.

The administrator also emphasized the role of community policing, urging security personnel to foster peaceful coexistence within local government areas and rural communities.

He called on them to support law enforcement agencies by raising public awareness of security measures.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to security, Ibas assured that necessary support would be provided to enhance the effectiveness of paramilitary operations.

In response, the Controller of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Rivers State Command, Mr Felix Madumere, expressed gratitude for the administrator’s insights, noting that the shared information would aid their operations.

He pledged the agency’s cooperation in ensuring that Ibas’ tenure leaves a lasting impact on security in Rivers State.
