The President of the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Stephen Aiyewumi, (retd), described the new National Security Adviser to the President, Nuhu Ribadu, as fit and qualified for the post.

Aiyewumi said this while speaking exclusively with our correspondent on Monday.

The PUNCH reports Ribadu, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023.

He replaced Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.) who was appointed in July 2015 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Aiyewumi said Ribadu was worth the position without a military background, adding that his achievements as the former boss of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission were laudable.

“I think he is qualified to hold that position. It does not matter whether he has no military background. All know his great achievements when he was the head of the EFCC. His name became a household name. Why, because of his activities as the head of the organisation.”

He went further to say, “Ribadu is a man of integrity. When given an assignment, he has always been committed to the success of the assignment.”

Speaking on his expectations from the NSA, the ARPON president urged Ribadu to be more committed to the service.

“My advice to him is, he should be open and should not relent in his duty. He should be more committed to service.”

Ribadu, the pioneer chairman of EFCC, was appointed to the role by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. His mandate was to combat corruption and fraud, a responsibility he successfully fulfilled, transforming the EFCC into one of the most highly regarded and impactful anti-graft agencies in contemporary times.
