Prominent cleric Rev. Chika Ubani has voiced strong opposition to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s recent comments regarding the upcoming 2027 Abia North Senatorial election. Kalu, the current senator and former governor of Abia State, claimed his focus remains on governance, stating, “My priority at the moment is to deliver more dividends of democracy and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in addressing the pressing issues facing our nation.”
Kalu emphasized that discussions about the 2027 elections are premature, insisting that the immediate needs of the people, particularly in light of ongoing hunger and economic challenges, take precedence. He acknowledged the endorsements he has received but reiterated that his current mandate is to serve the people of Abia North.
In a swift rebuttal, Rev. Ubani asserted that the people of Abia will not accept any decision by Kalu to withdraw from the race. He praised Kalu’s leadership and noted that there is significant pressure from constituents for him to seek re-election. “Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has proven himself as a leader who prioritizes the welfare of his people. The entire state is urging him to run again, and we won’t accept any decision to step aside,” Ubani declared.
The exchange between Kalu and Ubani has ignited fresh political discussions in Abia North, with stakeholders and residents weighing in on Kalu’s future in the Senate. While some commend his commitment to governance over early politicking, others, like Rev. Ubani, argue that Kalu’s leadership is essential for the continued progress of Abia State.
As the political landscape evolves, the people of Abia North remain engaged in conversations about their representation and future leadership.
