Following reactions trailing the planned relocation of some departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria to Lagos and the Federal Airports Authority, the Northern Senators’ Forum on Monday called for calm.
The Forum said, there would be an opportunity for dialogue and negotiation on the vexed issue with President Bola Tinubu, expressing their readiness to engage the president.
In a statement on Monday by Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District on behalf of the Forum, the group said, legal measures will be sought if negotiation fails.
He assured that the Forum would take action in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended, stressing that no one should be apprehensive over the relocation of the critical agencies of government.
Senator Kawu Sumaila, who is the Spokesperson of the group, said “We will engage the executive branch of the government and the leadership of the Senate and the relevant stakeholders to actively listen to the concerns of Nigerians and provide updates on our progress.
“As representatives of the people at the national level (Senate), we are committed to addressing lopsidedness in the distribution and allocation of resources in the 2024 budget, and the relocation of some federal agencies from Abuja to Lagos.”
According to him, there were some imbalances in the policies of the government, which the Forum will not overlook but will address through budgetary allocations.
