The chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Shehu Umar Buba, has asked the Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, to swiftly access the N3 billion earmarked by the Federal Government for flood disaster relief to states to alleviate the sufferings of victims in the state.
The fund, approved by the National Economic Council and allocated by the Federal Government, is specifically intended to assist victims of natural disasters like the recent flooding across the country.
In a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja on Sunday, Senator Buba called for urgent and swift actions to alleviate the suffering of those affected in the state, noting that the release and proper allocation of the funds could significantly impact the lives of countless individuals affected by the flood.
He expressed deep sorrow over the devastating flooding that recently ravaged communities in Bauchi State, particularly in Fadaman Mada, where widespread damage to homes and property was reported.
The N3 billion palliative for flood victims was disclosed recently at the National Economic Council meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima. The meeting was attended by governors and deputy governors from across the country as well as some ministers in Abuja where Bill Gates, the co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Industries Limited, made presentations.
