The Moro community has issued a strong response to the recent statement from the Yakooyo Progressive Union (YPU), viewing it as a desperate attempt to obscure the truth regarding General Alani Akinrinade’s illegal encroachment on their ancestral land. The YPU’s response is riddled with contradictions and misleading claims that warrant thorough scrutiny.
The community highlights that General Akinrinade himself admitted during a recorded conversation with Sahara Reporters that he has been living on Moro land for years. Despite this admission, he denied any knowledge of the signage that mysteriously appeared on the disputed land. However, in a contradictory statement, he later claimed that the initiative to construct a multipurpose hall was proposed by the King of Yakooyo to honor his father. This assertion raises serious questions: if the purpose was indeed to honor his father, why does the signage prominently feature Akinrinade’s name without any acknowledgment of his father? Such inconsistencies cast doubt on the credibility of the narrative being presented.
The community calls into question the truthfulness of those involved: Is it General Akinrinade, the Yakooyo king, or the YPU that is not being forthright? The web of deception they have woven appears to be collapsing under its own contradictions.
Further complicating matters, multiple witnesses have come forward with testimonies indicating that General Akinrinade personally visited the temporary occupants of the disputed land, assuring them of his support should they face any challenges to their presence. This assurance came just days before the controversial signage was erected, yet when confronted by Sahara Reporters, he feigned ignorance. Such behavior is seen as indicative of ulterior motives behind the encroachment.
If the YPU genuinely believes in the legitimacy of their claims, the community challenges them to take legal action against Sahara Reporters instead of issuing contradictory statements. They assert that if a legitimate court judgment exists to support their encroachment, it should be made public for scrutiny.
Additionally, the community calls upon all Yakooyo settlers in the disputed area to produce verifiable proof of land ownership—such as purchase receipts, legal documents, and historical evidence—that would confirm their claims. In the absence of such evidence, it is emphasized that Yakooyo has historically occupied the land out of necessity, not entitlement. Basic respect for the rightful owners must prevail over any attempts to distort history.
The community remains resolute in its commitment to defend its ancestral land through all legitimate and legal means necessary. This statement serves as a final warning to those who believe they can manipulate history and suppress the voices of a people who have long demonstrated patience and goodwill. However, that patience is not infinite.
The Moro community extends its gratitude to Newspot Nigeria for providing a platform for this crucial dialogue.
