The Atalanta striker will become Erik ten Hag’s third signing of the summer after the clubs agreed a deal worth €75m (£64m) plus £10m (£8m) in add-ons.
Hojlund passed his medical at United’s training ground this week and has already filmed his first media interview as a Red Devil.
The next step is for United to confirm the transfer and the club reportedly plan to unveil him at Old Trafford on Saturday before the pre-season match against Lens.
It is thought that Hojlund’s contract will tie him to the club for five years and the Red Devils are believed to have the option to extend it by a further year.
Hojlund’s preference has always been a move to United with Ten Hag making him a top target after being priced out of a transfer for Harry Kane.
Atalanta were in pre-season action on Saturday against Bournemouth with Hojlund not featuring ahead of his summer switch.
He was handed his first senior cap for Denmark last September and has scored six goals in six games for the national side.
Hojlund registered nine goals and four assists across 32 Serie A games for Atalanta last term.
United have been in urgent need of more firepower this summer having relied heavily on Marcus Rashford last season.
