Rasmus Hojlund has hailed Christian Eriksen as ‘Agent Christian’ for his work on convincing him to join Manchester United this summer.

The 20-year-old has completed his move from Atalanta to Old Trafford in a deal which could be worth as much as £72m, unveiled as a new Red Devils player on Saturday.

The Denmark international did not take a lot of convincing that Manchester United would be a great move for him, but the pursuit of him did take some time as the clubs haggled over price.

Eriksen was working hard behind the scenes to encourage his international teammate to join him in Manchester, and eventually the experienced midfielder got what he wanted.

‘He has welcomed me, and he got to call himself “Agent Christian” over the summer because he did his job well behind the scenes,’ Hojlund told the Dansk Boldspil Union.

‘Now I make it sound like he negotiated my deal, but he just asked if I would like to come over here, because they were really interested in me and thought I was an exciting player.

‘He would like a new Dane to come, and he could see that the way they and I play football could be a good match. And so on and so on. We talked a lot back and forth.’

United boss Erik ten Hag will be grateful for Eriksen’s influence, excited about the potential of his new signing.

‘He is really a front man, very direct to the goal,’ said Ten Hag. ‘A very good presser, a physical presence and I think in the balance of this squad we needed that.

‘Alongside Rashford, [he is] another player who is direct and can score goals and that is all in his mind – he wants to score goals.

‘I think he has such a huge potential and now it is up first to him to explore that and we will support him – all the coaches.

‘I’m sure the whole team was waiting for a type like him and they will integrate and in the dressing room or on the pitch they will help him. But as I said, finally the player – he has to prove it.’
