British journalist, Piers Morgan, has expressed sadness after Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo broke down in tears following his country’s 2022 FIFA World Cup exit in Qatar.
Morgan, Ronaldo’s confidante, said it was sad for him to see the former Manchester United forward in tears after Morocco eliminated Portugal from the World Cup.
Ronaldo came off the bench as Morocco defeated Portugal 1-0 in the World Cup semi-final tie following Youssef En-Nesyri’s only goal of the match.
The 37-year-old left the pitch in tears as they were dumped out of the 2022 World Cup by Morocco.
Reacting, Morgan, in a tweet via his Twitter handle after the game, wrote:
“Very sad to [email protected] in tears as his dream of winning the World Cup ended.
“Those mocking him should remember what he’s done for football. For me, he’s the GOAT and a great guy who’s had the toughest year of his life on & off the pitch. He’s earned our respect.”
