The joy of Nigerian football fans on the possible resumption of football activities has been cut short after it was announced that the round leather game cannot resume for now.
At a briefing in Abuja, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, announced that it has not lifted ban on the suspension of the crowd pulling game.
This is a a new twist to the matter as the PTF had eaelier announced that football could resume but without fans at the stadium.
It stated that all COVID-19 protocols must be observed at every stadia, a task which the3 country’s Sport Ministry and football organisers have been working on.
The initial announcement had thrown actors in the football business into frenzy, with the hope that they will get back to do what they love doing after the clampdown on all sporting activities in March.
However, the PTF made a U-turn on its earlier decision by stating categorically that only non contact sports can resume for now.
“In terms of issue of sports, yes, I am a football fan but sadly we have not allowed contact sports for now, we’ve only allowed non-contact sports, football is not included.
“So all those football fans, sorry, it is not get time but we are looking at this, we will continue relaxing when the time comes and it is safe to do so”, Dr Sanni, a member of the PTF disclosed during the briefing in Abuja.
