The Bauchi State Chapter of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has again picked holes in the state’s 2025 budget.
The party alleged misallocation of funds, while calling for its repeal by the State House of Assembly.
Newspot recalls that the party had earlier berated the State Government for proposing a budget of N3.4 billion for travel expenses in 2025.
In a statement issued and signed by the party’s state secretary, Wada Abdullahi, the PRP pointed out other questionable allocations, which included N4.2 million for two desktop computers, N2.45 million for two printers, and a staggering N7 million for three photocopiers.
It argued that the items could be procured at significantly lower costs.
The statement read: “The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Bauchi State Chapter, unequivocally condemns the 2025 budget signed into law by the PDP-led Bauchi State Government. This budget reflects a governance style marred by reckless spending, corruption, and greed.
“It is shocking that the government has allocated an outrageous N39.6 million for just two motorcycles, an amount clearly inflated far beyond market value. Similarly, the allocations of N4.2 million for two desktop computers, N2.45 million for two printers, and N7 million for three photocopiers amount to a total of N53.25 million—a glaring example of financial impropriety.
“These expenditures highlight the administration’s prioritization of personal enrichment over the welfare of the citizens. Such financial recklessness undermines the state’s development and mocks the struggles of ordinary Bauchi residents, who are battling daily hardships.”
The PRP also questioned the role of the State House of Assembly in approving the budget, suggesting either a lack of due diligence or possible collusion with corrupt individuals.
The statement continued “We demand that the Bauchi State House of Assembly use its legislative authority to repeal this budget, which is riddled with corruption and lacks transparency.
“A new budget, grounded in realistic financial planning and genuine concern for the people’s needs, must be developed.”
