In a significant move to bolster Nigeria’s healthcare system, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the new Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). This pivotal appointment is set to enhance the management and delivery of health services across the nation.
Dr. Oloriegbe, a former Senator representing the Kwara Central Senatorial District during the 9th Senate, will serve an initial term of four years, effective from March 11, 2025. His extensive background in medicine and health policy positions him uniquely to lead the NHIA at a time when the country is seeking to improve healthcare access and quality for its citizens.
Holding a master’s degree in Coaching and Consultation from the prestigious University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris, Dr. Oloriegbe also earned his bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State. His educational credentials are complemented by his active membership in several professional associations, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), among others.
Notably, Dr. Oloriegbe chaired the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023 and played a critical role as the Chairman of the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health, showcasing his commitment to advancing health initiatives in Nigeria.
As he steps into this new role, Dr. Oloriegbe aims to leverage his expertise and experience to enhance the National Health Insurance Authority’s impact and effectiveness in providing affordable healthcare to Nigerians.

PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS DR IBRAHIM YAHAYA OLORIEGBE, CHAIRMAN OF NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE AUTHORITY (NHIA)
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as Chairman of the National Health Authority Insurance Authority (NHIA).
The appointment of the former Kwara Central Senator will be for an initial term of four years.
The appointment took effect on March 11, 2025.
Dr Oloriegbe represented Kwara Central Senatorial District at the 9th Senate of the National Assembly.
He holds a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris, and a Bachelor’s of Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.
He is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), Nigeria Veneral Disease Association, Guild of Medical Directors of Nigeria, International Aids Society (IAS), and the Africa Health Leadership and Management Network.
Oloriegbe served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023 and the Chairman of the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health.
