In a recent development, the Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, has granted bail to popular musician Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable. The decision was made following his arraignment on five counts, including conspiracy, assault, and unlawful obstruction.
The court set Portable’s bail at N2 million, requiring him to provide two sureties who must be licensed bondmen registered with the Ogun State government. Portable, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, is implicated in a violent incident involving officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. This incident occurred on February 5 while the officials were performing their duties at his bar located in Sango Ota.
Senior State Counsel, Mr. Timileyin Oredein, detailed that Portable and his staff allegedly assaulted and obstructed three Town Planning officers. The charges brought against him contravene various sections of the Ogun State Criminal Code.
During the proceedings, Portable’s counsel, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Omomehin, requested bail under liberal terms. The presiding Magistrate, Mr. O.L. Oke, warned Portable not to engage in any social media commentary regarding the case, stating that any violation could result in the withdrawal of his bail.
The case has been adjourned until March 5, 2025, for further hearing.
