Police rescue five kidnap victims in Katsina

The police in Katsina have rescued five victims earlier kidnapped by terrorists who attacked a community in  Malumfashi Local Government  Area of the state early Sunday morning.

The police are also on the trail of the terrorists who carried out the attack.

The spokesman for the Katsina state police command, ASP Abubakar confirmed the development on Monday.

He explained that police operatives got the information that the terrorists in numbers, attacked Sabon Gida village in the council early Sunday morning where they kidnapped the victims.

He added that the terrorists thereafter were moving the victims towards kankara when the operatives confronted them (the terrorists) and engaged them in a fierce gun battle.

The five victims were reportedly rescued unhurt while the terrorists fled to the forests.

The police spokesman said the operatives were on the trail of the fleeing terrorists on Monday.

Aliyu revealed “On 6, August, 2023, at about 5 a.m, information was received that terrorists armed with dangerous weapons such as the AK-47 rifle, shooting sporadically, attacked Sabon Gida village, Malumfashi Local Government Area, kidnapped five (5) people, and were moving towards Kankara Local Government Area. Upon receipt of the report, promptly, DPO Kankara mobilized his men to the scene, where they engaged the suspected terrorist in a fierce gun duel and successfully rescued all the kidnapped victims unhurt.

“Efforts are on with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects.

“Investigation is going,” he stated.
