Police parade kidnap suspect, pirate in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has paraded one Baridula Gbolo, an indigene of Bodo town in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, suspected to be the leader of the gang terrorizing the bonny waterways.

Parading the suspect on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni said after the kidnap of some boat passengers earlier in the week, the police commenced an “investigation and invited one of the drivers of the boat who identified one of the kidnappers”.

Omoni said the suspect was arrested after “a discrete investigation which led to the rescue of eight of the kidnap victims from a forest in Bolo in Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area of the state”, saying the suspect is helping the Police in further investigation.

“On Monday and Tuesday, we recorded two separate incidents of attack on the bonny waterways by the same gang”.

“In the course of our investigation the boat driver who was asked to go by the kidnappers was invited by the police; the anti-cultism team investigating the matter and after subjecting him to questioning and interrogation he was able to open up that he could identify one of those kidnappers so we started working on the clues he provided for us and luckily we were able to arrest this one”.

On his part, the suspect Baridula Gbolo while speaking with newsmen, confessed his involvement in the crime and disclosed that he was “a boat driver and decided to join one T-money and Dimadi” two members of the gang to kidnap boat passengers.

He said, “On Monday I went with Dimadi to carry the passengers from the River, on Tuesday we went and carried another set of passengers and took them to a bush in bolo”.
