The Zamfara State Police Command, on Tuesday, paraded two suspects arrested in connection with the killing of a reporter with Voice of Nigeria in Zamfara State, Hamisu Danjinga.

Danjibga was killed in his house three weeks ago and his corpse was dumped in a septic tank behind his residence.

Parading the two suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Shehu Dalijan, said one of the suspects was the late Danjinga’s nephew, Mansur Haruna.

The CP said, “Mansur Haruna, the son of Danjinga’s elder brother, was among those suspected to have killed late VON reporter, Hamisu Danjinga.”

According to the CP, Haruna, who was staying in late Danjinga’s residence, has confessed that he was the one who invited his friend, Ibrahim Na Baba, to help him kill his uncle because he (Danjinga) did not assist him in joining the Nigerian Army or the police.

“Mansur Haruna said he was staying in late Danjinga’s house for over 17 years and wanted to join the Nigerian Army or the police, but the late Danjinga said he would not support his ambition due to his bad behaviour.

“The late Danjinga finally sent him out of his house because he refused to change his habit. Unhappy with this, the suspect, Mansur Haruna, confessed that he invited his friend to help him kidnap his uncle, the late Danjinga, in order to get some money and start a business.”

Speaking to journalists, Haruna said when they entered the late Hamisu Danjinga’s room, they claimed to be bandits and told him to follow them to the forest, but he refused to go.

He said, “When we were struggling to get him out of his room, the mask on my face fell off and he quickly recognised me and said, ‘Mansur, what the hell are you doing here?’

“On realising that he recognised me, I brought a knife and stabbed him twice and he held me very tight.

“My friend, Ibrahim Na Baba, also brought out a machete and hit him on the head where he finally fell down and died on the spot.

“We quickly took his corpse and dumped it into a soakaway behind his residence,” Haruna said.
