The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the invasion of a community in the Keffi Local Government Area of the state by gunmen, where four students of the state’s university were kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel, explained that the abduction of the students occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Angwan Ka’are in the LGA.
He, however, said the Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba, had ordered the manhunt of the culprits to rescue the victims unhurt.
“The command is aware of the kidnapping at about 12:55 am as a distress call was received that a house located at Angwan Kaare in Keffi was invaded by unidentified armed men.
“The police in collaboration with the military, responded accordingly and combed the area, but to no avail.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a manhunt for the culprits with a view to rescuing the four victims unhurt.”
Meanwhile, findings by our correspondent revealed the names of the kidnapped students are Rahila Hanya, a 100-level student of the Science Laboratory Technology department; Josephine Gershon, a Computer Science 100-level student; Rosemary Samuel, a 100-level student of Business Administration; and Goodness Samuel, a 100 level student of the Geography department.
When contacted to get the school’s reaction to the incident, the university’s Information and Protocol Officer, Comrade Abraham Ekpo, told our correspondent that there had not been any official information lodged to the institution with respect to the incident.
“The SUG is yet to report the incident to the Vice Chancellor and until we get an official report from the SUG or from the police, we cannot make any statement. We heard about the incident just as you also heard but there is no official communication to us,” he said.
