PLACEMENT OF OBITUARY ADVERTISEMENT ON BEREAVED STAFF OPTIONAL – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has stated its willingness to always adhere to the provisions of the Civil Service regulations and advisories with respect to the payment of burial expenses especially as it affects the placement of obituary adverts on bereavement.

According to the Board, an obituary advertisement serves as a notice that a person is deceased with the intention of bringing it to the notice of the public, person’s friends or distant family members, who may not have heard the news of his/her demise.

It, however, noted that a formal acknowledgement or announcement is at the perogative of the family of the deceased as the Board has always paid the cost of obituaries advertisment alongside burial expenses to the family members of the deceased. However, going forward, any staff who prefers the advertisement can so indicate and the amount would be deducted for the placement of the advertisement.
