Piers Morgan trolled his former employer ITV after a tweet calling for a Good Morning Britain researcher was posted which used a promo shot of the journalist months after he left the programme.

The former show host resigned in March following an explosive episode which saw Piers storm off after a row with Alex Beresford, after sparking a record number of complaints over his remarks dismissing Meghan Markle’s mental health battle. Hours later he confirmed that very episode would be his last.

While he’s no longer hosting the programme alongside Susanna Reid – with a revolving selection of guest co-hosts taking his seat – it seems he’s still got his foot in the door, with an ad using his face to recruit a new staffer.

In a now-deleted tweet posted on Thursday, a shot of Piers sitting at the GMB desk alongside Susanna was uploaded, along with the message in search for a planning researcher: ‘We need someone who has a real thirst for news and has the drive and determination to chase and secure topical stories and guests.’

Perhaps finding it a laugh he was still on the promo material, Piers shared the advert and added on Twitter: ‘Erm, you realise I’ve left, right?’

His tweet remains on the site at time of writing, however the advert has been removed – with a replacement not yet posted to the ITV careers account.

Piers hasn’t shied away from speaking about his departure from the flagship ITV programme, recently insisting he didn’t want to leave.

Addressing reports the GMB staff were gagging for his comeback, before he announced he was joining TalkTV, the presenter stressed ‘this won’t be happening’ because ‘I still don’t believe a word Pinocchio Princess’, referring to the Duchess of Sussex.

When one of his followers begged him to come back so his wife would stop saying ‘it’s not the same without Piers’, the host stressed the decision was out of his hands.

He replied: ‘Please apologise to your wife. I didn’t actually want to leave, I was really enjoying it. Unfortunately, Meghan Markle told my bosses she wasn’t enjoying it quite as much, so I left.’

The journalist is returning to screens imminently after inking a contract with Ruper Murdoch and News UK to join its TalkTV channel.

In the global deal, Piers will launch a new TV show in early 2022, to air on weeknights in the UK, US and Australia, and present a series of True Crime documentaries.

In addition to this, HarperCollins UK has signed world rights for Piers’s new title and will publish in hardback, audio and digital formats.
