Petrol Laden Tanker Explodes In Ibadan Destroys Goods and Properties Worth Millions of Naira

Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed at  Onipepeye area of Ibadan after a tanker conveying petrol fell on the road.

It was gathered that the tanker lost control while coming from NNPC area rammed into block of shops. Three vehicles and motorcycle went into flames. Two persons including a woman and a man were also known to have been  burnt beyond recognition in the  raging fire

Although, the level of casualties have not been ascertained, but the fire incident affected some buildings around the area.

Space 90.1 FM’S Personnels as part of Corporate Social responsibility contacted Adewuyi of the Oyo state fire service who released number of the state’s fire control room whose recipient affirmed efforts of normalcy.

According to an eyewitness, the truck with 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit otherwise called petrol was going on very high speed and while trying to prevent running into a Micra car, lost control and the truck tilted backward, forcing the lids covering the tanks at the back to open thereby emptying its contents.
The inflammable substance streamed down a link road to a woman using fire down the flyover. This resulted in a deafening sound followed by a huge ball of smoke and fire. Afterward, a loud explosion rent the air.

Those who have shops in the area rushed in frantically to see what they could salvaged but could not as the fire spread at alarming rate.

Many traders were helpless and shedding hot tears as they saw their goods going into flames before their eyes.

A woman whose shop was nearby said: “We suddenly heard a loud noise and before we came out, everyone was running helter-skelter to escape the fire. It was the tanker that exploded when it lost control. The fuel flowed down the flyover and connected fire from a woman who was selling edibles just at the foot of the link road. The fire trailed petrol from the tanker.”

Some of the traders newspot spoke with lamented that they had just restocked for the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Newspot reporter saw how desperate people rushed to the scene to scoop the tanker that burst into flames causing others scampering for safety.
