Lecce star Patrick Dorgu has distanced himself from speculation of a possible move to Liverpool, though admits it’s ‘good to hear’ his name linked to some of Europe’s top clubs.

The left-back helped Lecce win the Primavera – the Italian U19 league – last season and has since established himself as one of the most sought-after young players in Serie A.

Liverpool have reportedly sent scouts to watch Dorgu, 19, on a number of occasions across the campaign, while the likes of AC Milan and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the Denmark U21 international.

But Dorgu is tied into a contract in Italy until 2027 and Lecce are expected to drive a hard bargain for the teenager as they brace themselves for a potential bidding war in the summer transfer window.

With incessant rumours swirling over his future, Dorgu is keen to keep his feet on the ground and remain focussed on the task at hand at Lecce, who are currently sitting 13th in the Serie A table.

However, in a wide-ranging interview with Danish publication Tipsbladet, the young full-back admitted it was flattering to be linked with some of the biggest teams in European football.

‘I don’t really think about interest from other clubs. I am in Lecce and I have to focus on the season and on myself,’ he said.

‘It’s great to hear that people look at me and talk about me, but I don’t have to think too much about it because I play in Lecce.

Dorgu said the interest shown by the likes of Liverpool, Milan and Barca gave him extra ‘motivation’ to keep performing at the level that he had been since in recent months.

‘It is of course a good motivation for me that there are teams looking at me,’ the Dane added.

‘It makes me work harder so I can reach the highest possible level.

‘I will continue the hard work and then we will have to see what happens in the future.’

Andy Robertson and Konstantinos Tsimikas are the two recognised left-backs in Jurgen Klopp’s current Liverpool squad, though Joe Gomez has provided excellent cover in the duo’s absence when called upon this season.

The Reds had been without Robertson since mid-October due to a shoulder injury, but the Scotland international made his return against Norwich and came on as a substitute against Arsenal last weekend.
